Update Tax settings if registered for GST: AUS Entertainers 💰

Surreal will not include GST in your entertainer payment unless you have flagged that your ABN is registered for GST on your Surreal Entertainer profile. Once flagged for GST, all future payments will automatically include GST.

Follow these steps to update your profile if you have an ABN and flag if you are also registered for GST.

  1. From your Entertainer profile, go to Settings then select Entertainer settings from the left menu (note: not your personal settings):
Find your Settings within the contact icon at top RH corner
  1. Scroll down to Payment details. Enter your ABN and tick if registered for GST then Save payment details.

If you operate under a company/business name and registered address, enter those details in the billing name/address to be included on your Surreal invoices.

GST

Surreal only passes on GST amounts collected for booking payments to artists/entertainers who have saved their GST registered ABN and flagged they are registered for GST in their Surreal Entertainer profile.

If you do not have an ABN or you're not GST registered then you will carry no responsibility for GST; Surreal does not collect GST on invoices paid by venues/hirers unless flagged in this setting.

**Important: If you added your GST details after an invoice has been raised or paid then you will need to settle the missed GST directly with the venue. Surreal is not responsible for settling this to you.

Tax

Surreal does not withhold any tax amounts on artist/supplier payments for booked events on the platform. This means that all Surreal Entertainers are responsible for accounting for and managing their own tax return each financial year. Surreal suggests amounts per earnings on the platform are set aside in case needed to pay to the ATO.

Important Notes:

Having an ABN does not automatically register you for standard GST.

To register for standard GST, you need to have an Australian business number (ABN). You can apply for an ABN when you first register your business name or at a later time. Once you have an ABN, you can register for GST, if certain criteria are met.

Please refer to the ATO website for further information about registering for GST and seek independent advice from your tax professional: https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/GST/Registering-for-GST/

Please note that the amount owed or claimed at the end of the financial year depends largely on the tax bracket in which you sit. For more information regarding this, please see the ATO website here.
